Dry Steam, Quiet Radiators, Safe Controls
Steam rewards precision. To make dry steam, the system needs correct near-boiler piping (header, equalizer, Hartford loop), adequate main venting, and carefully controlled low pressure. If water is carried over or pressure is excessive, you’ll hear water hammer, see uneven radiators, and burn more fuel than necessary.
We rebuild undersized headers, correct equalizers, add or right-size main vents, and clean the boiler to remove oils so the waterline stabilizes. We tune pressuretrols or vaporstats to the lowest pressure that heats the home evenly, then verify radiator venting so each room comes up together.
The outcome: faster, quieter radiator response and a measurable drop in fuel usage—without living at higher pressures that stress equipment.

Installation & Replacement
We survey radiators to size the boiler to connected load, then design near-boiler piping for dry steam and reliable condensate return. Headers and equalizers are set to manufacturer specs, mains are pitched correctly, and vents are sized for fast, balanced fill.
Controls are configured for safety and stability: sight glass and LWCO verified, pressure controls set conservatively, and skim ports used to remove oils after start-up. We include service valves and clean access points so future maintenance is fast and safe.
Commissioning logs warm-up time, pressure behavior, and vent performance. That baseline lets you (and us) spot drift long before comfort suffers.
Repair & Diagnostics
We resolve short-cycling, surging/foaming, wet steam, cold radiators, hammer, failed traps/vents, clogged pigtails, and autofeeder problems. Our process is measurement-driven—observing waterline stability, pressure curves, and vent timing to pinpoint the cause.
If sections leak or the boiler is at end of life, we provide replacement options and explain payback vs. repair with fuel-use context. We often pair replacement with venting and insulation improvements that reduce runtime significantly.
Emergency service is available during the heating season across Greater Pittsburgh; we prioritize steam calls because operating at the wrong pressure can be both noisy and wasteful.
Maintenance & Safety
Annual service includes combustion analysis, CO/draft checks, cleaning, testing the LWCO and blow-down, and verifying pressure controls. We inspect near-boiler piping for pitch, corrosion, and support integrity.
We also review water treatment and skimming practices to keep the waterline calm. A stable waterline means stable pressure and quiet operation.
You’ll receive a documented report with readings and recommendations prioritized by safety, comfort, and efficiency.
